"For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us."
(PSALM 103:11-12)

1 John 1:8-10;
2 Corinthians 5:21
Our congregation celebrates the Lord’s Supper every week. We’ve become very familiar with Paul’s words of institution from Luke 22:20: “In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.'” Christ suffered terribly on our behalf. He paid a limitless price for our infinitely terrible sins. You and I may imagine how much pain would come from death on a Roman cross. But the physical pain was a mere pinprick compared with the immeasurable pain inflicted by His Father’s wrath.

The wonderful 1865 hymn by Elvina Hall says, “Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.” Suppose someone came up to you and said, “I got one of your bills by mistake and paid it for you.” If you knew how much the bill was for, you would know how to fittingly thank the person. We’ll never know the full extent of the bill Jesus paid for each of us. But we do know that it was a bill
paid in full!
