“Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, ‘Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?’”

John 4:28-29
Perhaps one of the most uplifting accounts of God drawing near one-on-one is the story of Jesus and the woman at the well. Conflict between the Jews and the Samaritans had spanned hundreds of years, but Jesus ignored that barrier by traveling into Samaritan territory. Tired and thirsty, He rested at Jacob’s well as a Samaritan woman came to draw water.

Jesus offered her living water, the ultimate eternal gift that only He could supply. She said, “I know that Messiah … is coming.” Jesus responded, “I who speak to you am he” (v. 25-26).

The sinful woman and the living Christ have a one-on-one encounter. She’s amazed at His intimate knowledge and His ability to know that her life was filled with former husbands (as well as a man she lived with currently). She realized He saw into her heart. Going back into her community, she implored others to come and meet Him.

We’re told many believed because of her story, and as Jesus spoke, even more became believers. One lady + Jesus and the power of the gospel = changed lives!
