“The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.”

2 Timothy 4:22
Paul’s final greetings at the end of his second letter to Timothy mention several friends and co-laborers in spreading the gospel. He refers to Priscilla and Aquila, Onesiphorus and his family, Erastus, Trophimus, Eubulus, Pudens, Linus, and Claudia.

Glance at the closing words from Paul’s 13 letters in the New Testament, and you’ll see he lists by name many of his friends and family members. He often sends greetings to or from them, commends them, or requests others to care for them. Some 60 names are listed—a few are even repeated in various letters.

But don’t skip over passages like these. Read them and keep in mind first that the Lord has set us in community with others as we guard the good deposit of our salvation, as we pass the news along to others, and as we face our daily tasks. We are not walking through life’s journey alone. And also, notice that in every closing line of Paul’s he prays for the grace of Jesus to be with his readers. We today are among Paul’s readers, ones on whom God’s overflowing grace has come down!
