“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves…. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”1 John 1: 8-9
Grandma was right, and her advice is a small picture paralleling God’s remedy for the sin which soils our hearts. Bring it to Him right away before it takes root and sets itself in you.
Perhaps you identify with David who describes the problems that come from living with the stain of sin. You feel like your bones are wasting away; your strength is sapped. You feel completely miserable until you finally admit the sin and stop trying to conceal it from God (v. 5). Immediately God’s forgiveness washes over you, restoring your joy. You are clean—really clean. And what has made you whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
When we confess our sins, the Lord can be counted on to forgive and cleanse us every single time.
