“When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”

Colossians 3:4
Try to grasp what it means that Christ is your life. Your job is not your life; your vacation home is not your life; your score on your next round of golf is not; even your family is not. When anything other than Jesus occupies the throne of your life, it is a foul smell to God.

His judgment comes when evil desires, sexual immorality, greed, idolatry, etc. dominate us; “the wrath of God is coming” (v. 6). God is holy and righteous and will not allow such sin. Better to deal with it now than put it off and let it grow.

Think of that chaotic corner of a closet or that awful-smelling back shelf of the fridge. You’ve got to clean out! In life, too, we must clean out/get rid of anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language. In doing so, we are being “renewed in knowledge in the image” of our Creator (v. 10). We have died to “the basic principles of this world” (2:20), moving forward with Jesus. Come confidently to the Lord in prayer, knowing that if you confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive it all (see 1 John 1:9).
