“And he is the head of the body, the church.” Colossians 1:18a // “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”

1 Corinthians 12:27
It’s our church! While it is true in a sense that you have some ownership of the church you attend, it is entirely God’s place.

The church is Christ’s body, the place where He dwells. To be fully in Christ, we must be faithfully participating in His church. “He who wants to find Christ must first find the Church” (Martin Luther, 1483-1546).

Can you be a Christian without joining the church? Yes, it surely is possible. But an entry in the 1996 Encyclopedia of 7,700 Illustrations says that doing so is like being “a student who will not go to school; a soldier who will not join an army; a citizen who doesn’t pay taxes or vote; a salesman with no customers; an explorer with no base camp; a seaman on a ship without a crew; a businessman on a deserted island; … a football player without a team;” and so on.

Jesus’ resurrected body connects us to Him. “Every day they continued to meet together …. They broke bread in their homes and ate together …. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved” (Acts 2:46-47).
