“Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me.”

Isaiah 45:21
My father once had an employee ask for the afternoon off because his wife had just given birth to a baby. My father hadn’t even known the couple was expecting! Of course, he was happy to give time off to this particularly shy employee. A baby’s arrival is a very special event!

God was never shy or private about His big birth announcement. He had been promising a savior for centuries, and Jesus’ arrival came with angels and singing. This was the ultimate proud father celebrating the birth of a child! God knows our struggling and suffering in life, and He has sent help. A divine solution to a broken world is great news, not something to keep secret.

Parts of God’s plan in sending His Son were misunderstood (and always have been). God does things differently from us. But just because we couldn’t see a hope for humanity in a little baby born to a poor family does not mean God was hiding His plan from us. Jesus grew up to teach and heal and die for our sins. He was raised again for our salvation. And that is still good news!
