“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.”

2 Corinthians 8:9
Have you ever felt like a spectator in life, like all the world is a stage and everybody has a part, but your part is to sit in the audience and cheer for other people? Some do have more dramatic life experiences and seem to have more importance and significance than others. But there are no unimportant people in Christ’s kingdom. There are no extras, no mere spectators. He calls us all to life, and life abundant (see John 10:10).

The angel of Advent spoke to poor shepherds; you may say you are not a shepherd. He spoke about all the people; you may feel like that is about humanity in general, and not about you, personally. But in his short message, the angel used the pronoun “you,” three times. His message was for you, for you, for YOU! Jesus did not come to suffer and die and be raised again for humanity in the abstract. He came to save you personally, with all of your fears and sorrows and needs and wants and gifts and abilities.

Don’t ever count yourself out. Your Savior, Jesus, wants you counted in.
