"But Martha was distracted...She came to him and asked, 'Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!'"
(LUKE 10:40)

Luke 10:38-42
As an older sister myself, I can relate well to Martha’s attitude. While growing up, I was almost always given more responsibilities when it came to chores or getting the house ready for company. There were times I resented my younger sister because she didn’t seem to have nearly as much to do. I’m sure I complained about it to my mom on more than one occasion.

The problem with being a “Martha” and not a “Mary” is that we sometimes get so caught up in the demands of preparing that we fail to take a moment to enjoy the real reason we were busy in the first place. A “Martha” zeroes in on minute tasks and has a hard time changing focus enough to take in the bigger picture.

Jesus Christ is the bigger picture and should be placed prominently in our lives. And He is more than just a house guest. He is the master of the house, deserving to be treated accordingly. How better to spend our time adoring and worshipping at His feet, than fussing about things that have no eternal value.
