“The angel answered, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.’”

Luke 1:35
My wife’s a great photographer. She’s good at centering the focal point. That center determines all else. It keeps things in balance, provides proper proportions, and better portrays the beauty or message of the photo.

Luke’s entire gospel account presents Jesus as the center of life. It’s as if he has given us a beautiful photo with Jesus as the focal point. “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David… his kingdom will never end” (vv. 32-33).

Mary understood the message. “I am the Lord’s servant…. May it be to me as you have said” (v. 38). Jesus would grow in wisdom and stature, His Father’s will always at the center of His life. “For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me” (John 6:38). In Gethsemane He prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42). Who is at the center of your Christmas season and at the center of your life?
