“The Lord said…, ‘Go! This man is my chosen instrument…. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.’”

Acts 9:16
If it surprises us that God would use a man known for having Christians killed, imagine the shock of Jesus’ disciples when they learned Saul was now one of them! Ananias was called upon to minister to the very one who threatened Jesus’ disciples. He was instructed to receive Saul as a brother and pray for his healing, as well as include him in the lives of the other disciples in Damascus.

The Lord said Saul was His “chosen instrument,” destined to bring the gospel to Gentiles and Jews, which would involve suffering for the cause of Christ. Saul became a powerful force in defense of the gospel. With his new name Paul (which means small, or humble), he would suffer for Jesus’ name. Though often his letters were written from the darkness of prisons, they record great joy. They comprise much of our New Testament and still bring hope and encouragement to Christians worldwide today.

Are you trusting in Jesus as your Savior? You too are a chosen instrument of His. He’ll lead you to minister for His glory right where you are.
