“‘Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you….’”Genesis 12:1-2a
Sometimes God only calls us to the next step, moving us without our knowing every detail in order that we may find Him. But a call to one thing inevitably means loss of another. When my husband and I read the above text with our refugee friends one evening, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Each person shared of the losses in their lives, losses of material possessions, comfort, family, and culture. Nadia shared that “without language I have no identity.” But the resounding chorus was that all the loss was worth it to them because they had found Jesus in the journey.
Paul summarized it similarly: “I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.” (Philippians 3:8a). When all else is gone, you have Jesus!
Are you mourning a loss you have incurred by following Jesus? Ask Jesus to comfort you with The certainty of His love today.
