“He answered, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Luke 10:27
If you look around, you will discover your Samaria, a place you might ordinarily avoid, but also a place of opportunity to share the gospel. Maybe it’s in your neighborhood, at work, with your family, or at the department of motor vehicles!

In the parable of the Good Samaritan, the road from Jerusalem to Jericho was known as the red and bloody way because of the criminal activity that was common there. Jesus tells the story of a man traveling to Jericho when he was attacked, beaten, and left for dead. A priest saw the man and passed by, unwilling to touch him, for it would leave him unclean and unable to perform his ceremonial temple duties. Then a Levite, whose motto was “safety first,” wouldn’t risk stopping to help. Finally, one least expected to do so, a Samaritan, personally intervened. Mercifully, he took the wounded man to an inn and paid for his care.

“Go and do likewise” (10:37), Jesus tells us. Remember what compels you: while you and I were as helpless as the man left for dead by the road, Jesus came to us and showed us mercy.
