“Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”

2 Corinthians 5:1
People are sent to prison because of their bad choices, not because they lack talent. I know for a fact that there are many talented people in prison. One person who comes to mind is Ben, a man of the Lakota Sioux nation. My wife and I met Ben when we served the Cornerstone Prison Church in South Dakota in 2009.

A gifted musician, Ben sings and plays guitar like a pro. He writes his own music. It was a pleasure to see him utilize his gifts to benefit the men in the prison church. At a spiritual retreat, he gave a captivating talk (integrating his music throughout) about living as one who knows forgiveness in Jesus Christ.

Now that Ben completed his prison sentence, he is using his hands to build and renovate houses, taking great pride in his work. He understands the importance of a solid structure built to protect us from inclement weather. And he knows the even greater importance of building a spiritual house. Praise God for Jesus who is right now building our house in heaven, a dwelling that will last forever!
