"Then he said to Thomas, 'Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side.
Stop doubting and believe.'"
(JOHN 20:27)

John 20:24-30
A man I attended college classes with in prison was once rushed to the hospital. I soon heard that he’d died of a heart attack. Imagine my shock when I saw him one morning in the prison chapel – sitting in a wheelchair and more alive than ever!

More than just a misunderstanding, Jesus’ disciples could hardly believe He’d really risen from the dead. Even when He appeared to them after the resurrection and stood in their midst, they “supposed they had seen a spirit” (Luke 24:37). Despite so much evidence, the disciples wouldn’t believe unless they saw, heard and handled Jesus for themselves.

How prone we are to unbelief! How often our hearts are hard and cold, unwilling to believe the good news that Jesus is alive and at work in our lives today. Thankfully, we have the eyewitness testimony of the apostles (Luke 1:2; Acts 1:2-3; 2 Peter 1:16-18; 1 John 1:1-4). Better yet, we also have the present witness of the Word and Spirit – as Jesus comes into our midst every time we gather for public worship. He draws near to us!
