“Comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes… for the display of his splendor.”

Isaiah 61:2b-3

The HAVEN Today radio program is heard by about 500,000 people daily. We can hardly imagine how many have been affected by its outreach for the last 85 years. A friend compared it to loading up a boat on a dock and then sending it out into the fog. You may never know what happens after it departs.

A young man from Oregon several years ago just “happened” to hear me speaking on the radio program about our son Jeff ’s death from an overdose. He wrote in years later to tell us how the Lord had used the brokenness in my voice that day to convict him of his need to change. He committed his life to Jesus, went into rehab, and is now living a new life.

It’s one thing to be awed at how the Lord may use our good efforts for Him to bring about something beautiful in time. But it’s an even more profound thing to witness the Lord taking what was heartbreaking and life-shattering to bring the light of His grace to the surface. Are you waiting for Him to make beauty from your ashes? Hang on, for He is near to the brokenhearted. I know it firsthand.
