“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Galatians 6:2
Are you a person who’d rather give help than ask for it? Asking for help always seemed to me like admitting failure. But that didn’t last long when I became a caregiver where there’s no room for pride.

All through Scripture we see the importance and blessing of serving one another. But pride, which causes us to think more highly of ourselves than we should, is behind our refusal to ask for help. When pride enters, we all suffer.

The Bible refers to believers as the body of Christ. We need each other in church ministry, caregiving, and the routines of daily life. God never meant for us to go it alone. As the apostle Paul wrote, “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it” (1 Corinthians 12:26).

When we’re caring for another person, we need to depend on the Holy Spirit for help to persevere. In my experience, He often sent that help through another person if I’d only ask. When I did, I discovered the comfort and blessing of being served even as I serve.
