“Since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or stone—an image made by man’s design and skill.”

Acts 17:29
Admit it—we all love praise! Our life choices are often a result of praise. It encourages us toward education, vocation, and perhaps our selection of sport or fine art. We also grieve over its opposite: disinterest, ridicule, or dismissal. Criticism, whatever its intention, can stop us in our tracks, convincing us we’re of little worth to our Creator.

Artists can feel particularly vulnerable to critique. Failing or not meeting our standards is common because we’re “putting our souls out there.” Our offerings have intrinsic value whether they are received well or not. Prayerfully, we work and then humbly acknowledge that it is by Him and in Him that we can make things at all.

Breakthroughs in our art display God’s goodness and reflect praise back to Him. This is what happens whatever your pursuits are; keep Jesus at the center of it, and He is glorified. In faith we are sealed and our sanctification, including that of our work, is in progress. Pray that others will come to praise God when they ascribe the work of our hands to His hands.
