“Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 6:34
Have you ever observed someone displaying extreme anxiety while the situation looks to you to be not very stressful at all? You wonder what all the fuss is about. But when the tables are turned and you’re the one fretting, it begins to make sense. I know how that feels. Since my stroke, I find myself anxious about many things.

In A Praying Life, Paul Miller compares this deep disquiet of the soul to the settled peace of a life in prayer: “Anxiety is unable to relax in the face of chaos; continuous prayer clings to the Father in the face of chaos.” He says that without prayer, “[instead] of connecting with God, our spirits fly around like severed power lines, destroying everything that they touch. … We become anxious when we take a godlike stance, occupying ourselves with things too great for us. We return to sanity by becoming like little children resting on our mothers” (2009).

Are you anxious? Come to your heavenly Father in prayer. Draw near every day and lean hard on Him like the little child on a parent’s lap.
