“At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert, and he was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.”

Mark 1:12-13
S.D. Gordon, a writer in the 1900s,  verified a story about a missionary on a trip by horseback through a mountainous region of China. The missionary had valuables hidden on his person. On the road he met two dangerous looking armed men, also on horseback, going the opposite way. He greeted them as they passed by.

Years later a man came to the missionary at the close of a religious meeting to say he was one of those two men. “We knew about you and the valuables you were carrying. We knew the road you would take. We were going to rob you. But when we met you on the road, we were afraid of the other men with you, so we went by without molesting you.”

Astonished, the missionary said, “What do you mean? I was quite alone.”

“No,” the man said emphatically. “There were two others on horseback, one on each side of you. And we were afraid to attack three.”

Angelic help came exactly when needed. Angels attended every part of the arrival of Jesus in Bethlehem, too. Even today, He commands His angels concerning us, to guard us in all our ways.
