“Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.”

Deuteronomy 11:18
I take pills daily. I don’t feel anything, yet I take them. Why? Because the state of my health assures me they are working inside my body. It’s an inside job. Similarly, I eat meals every day. Unless I overeat, I don’t feel the food doing anything. Still, I eat. Why? Because it gives me the strength to get up each morning. It’s an inside job.

I also read the Bible. Sometimes I’m not inspired and don’t sense anything happening. But I read. Why? Because the Bible assures me that God’s Word always does something inside me. Every time I read the Bible, the Holy Spirit goes to work in me. John Piper affirmed: “I spend this much time on Bible memory because I believe in the power of the indwelling Word of God to solve a thousand problems before they happen, and to heal a thousand wounds after they happen, and to kill a thousand sins in the moment of temptation, and to sweeten a thousand days with the ‘drippings of the honeycomb’” (2004).

Let’s continue to read. See how God faithfully carries out His work inside of us, making us healthy and strong.
