“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”
2 Corinthians 5:20
I’ve been a believer for many years, and even as a young boy felt stirred by this Bible verse which calls me an ambassador of Christ. While growing up, our home was often filled with people of faith—pastors, missionaries, and lay folks—telling their stories of how God was at work in their lives. Compelled by Christ’s love (see v. 14), my wife and I committed to doing the same. We have trusted that the Lord would send people to us who need to be reconciled to Christ. He certainly has!
The Bible is filled with God’s encouraging and instructional words as He sent out His ambassadors. When He chose Moses to lead the Israelites, He promised, “I will be with you” (Exodus 3:12). To Jeremiah He said, “I appointed you … I am with you” (1:5, 8). Jesus told His disciples, “Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). And what heartening words these were: “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you” (John 20:21).
Dear friends, these same words are for you as you set out as Christ’s ambassador to make Jesus known.
