“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

Colossians 1:17
The impact of the two words “all things” is phenomenal. Paul won’t let us think that perhaps the Lord is supreme over some things or most things. In one paragraph he uses “all” or “all things” seven times, emphasizing the total sufficiency of Jesus Christ as our Savior.

The eternal plan of God is for mankind to be reconciled to Him. Jesus is the perfect manifestation of God. He is the perfect portrait of God, and in Him we see the personal characteristics of God. The Son is responsible for creation, and He is the one who holds the world together. He is also the head of the body, the Church.

All of this teaches us of His complete supremacy. Through His resurrection, He is alive forevermore. God the Father is saying I love you enough to see my Son suffer and die for you. I am here to reconcile you back to Myself. His invitation is simply, “Come!”
