“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:7
I can’t really relate to the “all sorts of horrors” that the Dickens character Scrooge experienced during his life-changing night. But I do remember an extreme panic when I accidently left our 18-month-old son in a store. We returned as quickly as possible, ran back, and found him calmly standing by the cashier. None of my worst fears had been realized as the Lord, in His faithfulness, kept him safe!

King Herod was disturbed when he heard of Jesus’ birth. Because he was a ruthless man, Herod’s trouble made everyone else tremble. He was filled with “all sorts of horrors,” imagining that he would be replaced as king. How little he understood about the temporary nature of his reign. Herod’s unease soon turned to hysteria as he ordered hundreds of children murdered so that no single one could dethrone him.

It is a fearful world we live in. Yet we do not have to live a distraught life when we realize our sovereign Lord reigns. He is able to keep us safe in His peace that passes understanding. Trust Christ, your faithful One!
