“If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.”

Deuteronomy 18:22
My wife and I began discussing marriage before we were formally engaged. We knew we were serious and sincere. But nobody really took notice of this until I gave her a ring. That ring meant a lot!

The angel of Advent’s message might have been difficult for humans to believe. So God gave a sign to confirm it. Though quite different than a diamond engagement ring, the sign was that the baby would be found in an animal’s feed trough. This unique and specific detail would confirm what the angel had said.

Through His angels and prophets, God made promises and prophecies. He is and always has been in control of all that happens. When He says something will happen, you can be sure of it. To assure us in our weak faith, He provided a sign at the birth of His Son. This event was not something the Lord was going to allow to be overlooked or misunderstood.

Jesus is our only hope for salvation. God assures us of this. The sign of the baby in the manger points to our suffering Savior and to our returning King.
