“For he says, ‘In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.’ I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”

2 Corinthians 6:2
We may think of favor as a singular kindness or good deed. We ask someone to do us a favor. But when we think of “favorable” circumstances or someone acting “in our favor,” we see it as a lasting, general attitude of good will. When a person of influence is on our side, we experience their favor.

The Advent angel told the shepherds that the good news of Advent would bring great joy and peace for those in God’s favor. God’s favor is not a one-time courtesy or act of generosity. Jesus came not to do a single good deed, but to live and die for us so we could have a relationship with Him. He is on our side! He will provide for us, protect us, and look out for us.

Do you ever feel that the good things happening to you are just a fluke or coincidence? That God couldn’t possibly be on your side? The devil would love to convince you that this is so. Rejoice! Through Christ we are in God’s favor! What happens to us, good or bad, doesn’t change our standing with Him. Jesus’ advent is the proof of and the reason for God’s favor.
