“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him.”

Psalm 37:7a
Being still and waiting patiently on God is not my default mode. December 1st catches me off- guard every year! I get a panicky feeling. The whole month is a preparation for one day. We feel the pressure to decorate, bake, buy, and produce Christmas cheer. Honestly, I sometimes feel like the Grinch.
The demands of the Christmas season mirror and intensify the demands that encompass our entire life except that they are bundled in the space of a few weeks. Daily we’re caught between our genuine desire for joy and the impositions society places on us. We forget David’s words to us in Psalm 37: “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart” (v. 4).
This month, let’s look at what God has to say about being caught in the in-betweens of our human existence. And what better time to do so than during Advent when we are waiting for Jesus’ coming? God wants us to know He is not just a God of the fulfillments; He is also the God of the in-betweens, gently whispering to us, “Be still before me.”
