“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face “May the LORD repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”

Ruth 2:12
Does the Sovereign Lord of all creation really notice the lives of such ordinary people? He does! Reading the story of Ruth confirms this truth.

Ruth was a poverty-stricken widow and a foreigner from the land of Moab. She was wary of the kindness of Boaz in whose field she had come to glean (a cultural practice which was a way those in need could be helped). But as the story unfolds, it becomes apparent that the provision Ruth found in Boaz’s field was not just scant remains, but abundance. God was setting the scene for Ruth’s security when she would marry Boaz. She had no idea at the time just how marvelous God’s plan was, for it would include the greatest gift to her family line and to each of us: the Messiah, Jesus Christ (see Matthew 1:1-16).

Sometimes the circumstances of our lives result in various types of deprivation. Keep close to your heavenly Father. He’ll open your ears to hear His voice in His Word speaking especially for you. He’ll provide others to be His hands and feet showing kindness and care.
