“Then he said, ‘I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.’ At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.”

Exodus 3:6
Jesus was opposed both by those who thought He was not spiritual enough, and by those who thought He was not realistic enough. Hoping to catch Him in an error, they peppered Him with questions.

Mark tells us the Sadducees didn’t even believe in the resurrection and concocted a theoretical problem only to show how silly they thought the idea was. But Jesus appealed to the story of Moses at the burning bush as history. And He pointed out that God identified Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as if they were alive. As the second person of the Trinity, Jesus knew because He had been there! Since Jesus came from heaven, He knew whether Abraham was there or not.

Our hope is not in a human leader whose promises come from theories and logic and wishful thinking. Our hope is in Christ Jesus, who died as an atoning sacrifice so sinners could be reunited with God and live with Him forever. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses are alive because of Him, and if we are in Christ we will enjoy the resurrection, too.
