"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."
(1 Peter 5:7)

Matthew 6:25-34
If there was anyone who had an excuse to feel stress, it was Mary’s cousin, Elizabeth. Pregnant in her old age, entrusted with the heavy responsibility of raising a son who was divinely appointed, knowing that she probably would not live to see him even half grown… On top of all that, she had a voiceless husband who had to communicate now with sign language!

Yet, everything we read about Elizabeth is joyful. When Mary needed a place to get away to, it was Elizabeth who welcomed her with open arms, rejoicing with Mary for the Messiah she carried. Elizabeth encouraged and blessed Mary, even as she coped with her own challenges and discomforts.

In Elizabeth we see a woman who trusted that despite her advanced age and humble situation, God would give strength, comfort, and every other resource needed to accomplish His plan. That trust turned her heart from anxiety to walking in purpose and joy! In this busy Christmas season, know that the Lord has provided you with the greatest cause for joy, and His name is Jesus.
