“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 1:8
On May 10, 1940, the Germans invaded Holland. After the last forces surrendered seven days later, the Dutch people lived under Nazi German occupation until May 1945.

Under German occupation, the Dutch people were forbidden to listen to foreign radio broadcasting, and owning a working radio was illegal. But for those who had a working radio hidden from detection, Radio Orange (a Dutch radio program on the BBC) was the source of news they desperately wanted to hear.

With the announcement of the D-day invasion on June 6, 1944, and the Allied progress thereafter, those who heard couldn’t help but share it with their friends and neighbors—much like the Apostles in Acts 5 who couldn’t be stopped from sharing the good news of the gospel.

“The heart of Christianity is Good News. It comes not as a task for us to fulfill, a mission for us to accomplish, or a game plan for us to follow with the help of life coaches, but a report that someone else has already fulfilled, accomplished, followed and achieved everything for us” (Michael Horton, 2012).
