“The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ (that is the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus.”

John 1:41-42
Even those unfamiliar with the Bible know who Peter was. Simon Peter’s brother Andrew, on the other hand, is much less known. Yet God used Andrew in important ways … maybe not walking-on-water kinds of ways, but valuable nonetheless.

We read of Andrew being among the first disciples Jesus called. He heard the announcement from John the Baptist and immediately followed. It was Andrew who went to find his brother Peter to urge him to follow Jesus, too. Andrew was present at the magnificent feeding of the 5,000 (in fact, he was the one to bring to Jesus the boy with his lunch of fish and bread!), and probably at most of Jesus’ miracles. The gospel of John records that he was with Philip when he was making a way for several Greek inquirers to see Jesus.

Who knows how many people Andrew brought to follow the Lord? It seems he was often working behind the scenes. Do you find that this is how you typically operate also? If the Lord has suited you perfectly for the work of bringing others in and of taking the not-limelight jobs, glorify Him in it!

Lord, give me some of Andrew’s heart. Remind me of how important it is that I introduce people to our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen
