“Greet Priscilla and Aquila my fellow workers in Christ Jesus. They risked their lives for me. … All the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them. Greet also the church that meets at their house.”

Romans 16:3-5
Aquila and Priscilla were successful husband-and-wife Jewish tentmakers in Rome. When the Jews were expelled from Rome, they moved to Corinth and met Paul (see vv. 1-3). They invited Paul to live and work with them, becoming steadfast friends and ministry partners while he lived in their home for two years and then as they traveled together.

All during that time, they opened their home for church meetings. While in Ephesus, they met Apollos, “a learned man with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures” (v. 24b). Apollos spoke publicly and fervently about the Scriptures and about Jesus. But Priscilla and Aquila realized that his preaching was incomplete. So they took him aside privately and “explained to him the way of God more adequately” (v. 26).

What a wonderful friendship these two had with Paul! They were partners in work, ministry, and marriage. Paul was very grateful for how they faithfully educated and encouraged others. They gave of themselves and gladly shared their resources with Paul, Apollos, and other believers.
