“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” “There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

Proverbs 17:17 , Proverbs 18:24
An advantage to having good hiking partners is that they are there for you in a pinch. On just about every trip, I forget something in terms of gear. When your hiking buddies love camping gear almost as much as hiking itself, this can be a real life.saver! There is always someone more than happy to share what is needed. On the trail, it is understood that when you can help a fellow hiker, you do!

In life’s journey, we often are in need of help along the way. Peter writes to believers who, like us, are living in the last days awaiting the return of Christ. His command is to “above all, love each other deeply” (4:8). This inside-out affection for one another takes shape in how we each use the gifts given to us by God’s grace.

It’s a picture of the even deeper love we know from the “friend who sticks closer than a brother,” Jesus Christ, the One who accompanies us on life’s path and has met our ultimate need. More than just a good hiking buddy, He was born to take on our sin and to see us through to the journey’s end.
