“With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.”

Isaiah 12:3
There is hardly anything I enjoy more than digging in the soil of my garden and watching the tender plants begin to emerge in the spring. Some days I get so busy gardening that I forget to drink enough water, I and do not stop to do so until I am desperately parched.

Our spiritual lives can be a bit like that, too. Often we are so busy—even with very good things—that we find we’ve gotten parched spiritually. When we drink long and deep from the Water of Life, our souls are satisfied. After we are refreshed by time in the Word or in worship or in prayer, we can take a cup of cold water in His name and give it to others. Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward” (Mark 9:41).

The River of Life never runs dry, but you and I will surely dry up if we don’t drink from it. Our Lord said that He would provide springs of living water flowing out of our spirit to give refreshment to all who come in contact with us.
