“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

Colossians 2:6-7
Watching the Rio de Janeiro Olympics last August, I was impressed by a pair of American athletes, David Boudia and Steele Johnson. After it was announced that they won the silver medal in synchronized diving, each separately and publicly gave thanks to God by proclaiming, “I’m an Olympic medal winner, but my identity is rooted in Christ.” Their diving coach and spiritual mentor, Adam Soldati, said, “I am not a diving coach who happens to be a Christian. I am a follower of Christ who happens to be a diving coach.”
Isn’t everyone looking for a place to root his or her identity? Unfortunately, we often make our problems, abilities, or professions our main thing. We forget about the One who gave His life for us, and we attach our identity instead to our successes or failures.
But our identity is rooted in Christ alone. From God’s perspective, we’re no longer identified by our problems, profession, or performance. Our identity is hidden in the perfect Son of God. In Him, you’re a child of God who happens to be a _______!
