The Lord’s Prayer in Aramaic

My first trip to Iraq came just months after American journalist James Foley was executed in 2014. If you remember, this was the event that incited an uproar around the world, proving that ISIS had become a global threat. After that, I knew I had to experience firsthand what was happening in the Middle East, and what believers in Christ could do to help. It also led me to a Chaldean pastor who shared the Lord’s Prayer with me in Aramaic.

In Northern Iraq, I met with refugees who had fled for their lives from advancing militants, while relief workers told me of their greatest needs. But more than anything else, I found that the Spirit of God was at work in the midst of all this devastation.

Just ten miles from an ISIS stronghold, I met a local Chaldean pastor who faithfully ministered in the area. As an Aramaic speaker, I asked if we could record the Lord’s Prayer in Aramaic, the very language Jesus would have used when teaching His disciples how to pray.
