John Lennox Answers Challenging Questions About God and COVID-19

The ongoing pandemic has taken a physical toll on our lives, but have you considered its spiritual toll? You might have begun asking yourself questions like …

  • If God is all loving, why did He allow the Coronavirus Pandemic to spread?
  • If God is all powerful, why doesn’t he eradicate Covid-19 right now?
  • How can my faith in Christ help me cope with this new way of life?
  • How is the Lord actually making a difference right now?

These are not easy questions to answer. In this week’s episode of the Great Stories with Charles Morris podcast, Oxford mathematics professor Dr. John Lennox (author of Where is God in a Coronavirus World? and God’s Undertaker: Has Science Buried God?) examines the coronavirus in light of various belief systems and shows how the Christian worldview not only helps us to make sense of it, but also offers us a sure and certain hope to cling to.

Where can I find the quote from Martin Luthers quote read today on “Where is God in a Coronavirus world”?
    Thank you

Here’s the quote from the program, originally taken from Luther’s Works, Volume 43, page 132 in a letter called “Whether one may flee from a deadly plague” written to Johann Hess:

“I shall ask God mercifully to protect us. Then I shall fumigate, help purify the air, administer medicine and take it. I shall avoid places and persons where my presence is not needed in order not to become contaminated and thus perchance inflict and pollute others and so cause their death as a result of my negligence. If God should wish to take me, he will surely find me and I have done what he has expected of me and so I am not responsible for either my own death or the death of others. If my neighbor needs me however I shall not avoid place or person but will go freely as stated above. See this is such a God-fearing faith because it is neither brash nor foolhardy…”

Listened to the radio program today Sunday Feb 7 and was horrified that you had a doctor promoting the vaccine. This is an individuals right to take it or not and not have this ONE doctor promote that it is in any way the Christian thing to do our body is the temple of God? what are you soliciting with this doctor?
This is a flu that does not warrant a vaccine. Please leave personal promotions out of the Bible, do not allow A Doctor that worked for the CDC to promote a vaccine that is not only not needed but that is not tested and safe.
All anyone needs to do is look after their health with proper rest, exercise, vitamins like D , C, ( Zinc as needed) and if you should get this FLU it is treatable with
…azithromycin and hydroxychloroquine as any health professional would know.
I work in the health field.
Thank you And I pray for you and the Christians that are listening to you, not to be swayed by your opinion.

Thanks for your response to the program, Leah. We are certainly in a moment where it is often difficult to always discern the right, best path forward. As we all seek to stay safe, keep others safe, and always point to Jesus, please join us in praying for wisdom and protection as we navigate the current world we live in.

Are you crazy? The COVID-19 vaccines have preserved the health and lives of billions of human beings across the globe. In my home state of Victoria, Australia, we will achieve vaccination rates in the high 90’s% of the population. Australians are very positive about vaccination.
