Christmas Carols Sung by King’s College Choir

100 years ago, the Great War was coming to an end. Cambridge had emptied out. Many of its students went to war, and only a fraction would return. Leaders at the school asked themselves what they would do for Christmas. The Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols was the answer.

Every Christmas since, this festival has been faithfully presented in centuries-old King’s College Chapel with a towering pipe organ and an assortment of grand choirs. As you prepare to celebrate Christmas, here are two carols from this gospel tradition that we believe will stir your heart to anticipate the Messiah this season.

If this music brought the joy of Christ to your heart, you can click here to listen to an interview with Dr. Stephen Cherry, the Dean of King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, about the history behind the Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols.
