“Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.”

Proverbs 4:5
Each week my wife and I sit down to compile a list of everything our family needs to buy from the grocery store. With five mouths to feed (mouths that seem to grow hungrier by the day!), the list is usually pretty long. And since I am notorious for arriving home from the store having forgotten the one thing we actually needed, making a list is an essential practice.

We are called to pursue many things as followers of Jesus Christ. One thing, however, that we cannot forget to pursue is wisdom. We are not born with it. In fact, left to ourselves, we would be inclined against wisdom and towards its opposite: folly.

But we can “get” wisdom. Observe parents, talk to pastors, converse with friends, watch the world God has built, read what is good, and you will get wisdom. Most importantly, however, do not forget the source of wisdom. Through the person and work of Jesus, the very embodiment of wisdom, God promises to give wisdom to any and all who seek it. So turn your ear towards the words of His mouth, and get wisdom.
