Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song… Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God…

Psalm 95:2, 6-7a
When young children are taught to pray, they find it easy to express their thanks. Some little ones will voice thanks for toys, and grandparents, and blades of grass, and french fries, and every other little thing that pops into their minds. I think the Lord does delight to hear our specific gratitude. But when we pray thanks that goes beyond this world, we are praying at a whole different level.
Give thanks to the Lord who is God and Creator, as the psalmists instructs us. Think of how the heavens and earth bear witness to His majesty. From the depth of the seas to the farthest stars in the sky, creation proclaims His greatness. Since He made us, it is only right that we praise and thank Him.
It wasn’t for the angels or the animals that He sent His Son. It was for us, His redeemed children. Look at the list of thanks to Him just from Psalm 95. He is great, glorious, worthy of praise, feared above all gods, strong, holy, just, and righteous. Wondrously, that list goes on and on in our prayers of thanksgiving!
