“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”

Psalm 119:105
Living on the island of Okinawa decades ago and serving with the Far East Broadcasting Co. (FEBC), we would never venture outside at night without a good flashlight. The known danger of the habu, a nocturnal, venomous pit viper, was real. They were rarely seen, but would come out at night to warm themselves from the heat of the day on the sunbaked streets and trails. The use of a bright flashlight lit the path and kept us from stepping right into danger.
God’s Word is a lamp and light for our walk through life. We build our foundation of faith upon the truths of Scripture and in doing so find spiritual protection from the enemy. Our world rarely wants to hear what we believe, and Satan will attempt to lure us away from God, creating insecurity and doubt. Yet God’s desire for us is to belong to Him and come to know Him through His Word. Scripture becomes a “lamp” and a “light” to our path, protecting us spiritually both short-range and long-range.
Stay focused on God’s Word, and you will be focused on Jesus.
