“Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel.”

Philippians 1:12
Twenty-one Egyptian Christians who would rather die than deny Christ. A Muslim man converted after an encounter with a Christian. A brother in China going to prison for the sake of the gospel. Each of these stories rekindled my fire for God’s mission, inspiring me to pray for the persecuted church and share the gospel with others.

The Holy Spirit works this way. You’d think Paul’s imprisonment in Rome would slow the spread of the gospel. Instead, God gave him the chance to share his faith with the guards and Caesar’s own household. Outside the prison walls, Christians were emboldened by Paul’s faith and told others the good news about Jesus. Even those jealous of his success took the opportunity to preach so others would hear and believe. You and I, too, are encouraged by Paul’s words. God’s work to bring the gospel to the whole world is unstoppable!

If you’re feeling apathetic about your faith, look for opportunities to hear what God is doing in the world. He’ll ignite your heart, and the gospel will advance through you.
