“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

Matthew 7:11
My kids can really drive me crazy. Sometimes it’s their disobedience. Other times it’s the ten million questions they ask me in the space of a few minutes. Still other times it’s their neediness. “Dad, can you…?” is a phrase that wears on me after hearing it again and again and again.

Thank God our Father in heaven is not like me! He’s not bothered by the incessant prayers of His children. As a matter of fact, He has commanded us to go to Him and ask Him for everything we could ever possibly need. He delights in meeting our needs, urging us to pray “on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests” (Ephesians 6:18).

I remember how it is in a correctional facility where you’re dependent on the guards. Anyone who has ever been incarcerated knows that dealing with the guards to get what you need is a delicate balancing act. You want them to remember your request, but you don’t want to bother them too much or they may withhold help out of spite or exasperation. Your heavenly Father is not like that—at all!
