“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge…. Their voice goes out into all the earth.”

Psalm 19:1-2, 4
I once joined a hiking meet-up group hoping to learn better techniques for gear-packing and map-reading. I soon discovered that no one in the group was a believer, so I had a wonderful opportunity to share the gospel with them. Having a common love of creation gave me the perfect platform to discuss freely the One who is the Creator of it all. Over the following weeks and months, I built relationships and presented the good news of salvation simply by starting with how lovely God’s creation is.

Inevitably, any worship of the created order over its Creator leaves people yearning for more. God has embedded His fingerprint in all that He has made, thus the heavens truly do declare His handiwork. It also accomplishes two other goals. First it holds man accountable as it testifies to His existence, making humanity answerable to Him. Secondly, it sets in man’s heart a yearning to understand Who is at work behind it all.

Even in our sinfulness, each one of us is aware that God exists; every part of creation is declaring it.
