“This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.”

John 21:14
The closing chapters of John’s gospel show us the height of Jesus’ victory over death and sin, but also some of the lowest moments of His disciples. I’ve always found it relatable and a bit comedic to read of Peter with the other disciples trying to make sense of Jesus’s death and simply concluding, “I’m going out to fish!” Perhaps it was necessity (or discouragement?) that made Peter decide to do what was familiar to him.

The touching part of this story is where and how Jesus appears. Having been raised from the dead, He doesn’t call the disciples to the temple, or to some other place to see Him. He comes to them where they are, both literally and spiritually. He shows them that He’d kept His promises.

The Lord knows our need for the gospel never ends, so He meets us where we are, transforming everything we do. Jesus came to the disciples in that ordinary moment, displaying His resurrection power to them. He does the same for us, taking our everyday moments of faith, and making them something beautiful through His love for us.
