"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me ..."
(GALATIANS 2:20A)

Galatians 2:17-21
Lonie Sue Johnson was a well-known artist and musician who lived on an idyllic farm in upstate New York. Some of her artwork even appeared on the cover of the famous New Yorker magazine.

But one day her life changed forever. A virus attacked and severely damaged her brain, leaving her with a rare case of amnesia. Not only does she have no memories of her past, but she also can barely remember what happened a few minutes ago. She lives entirely, 100%, in the present.

Unfortunately, Christians sometimes suffer from “spiritual amnesia.” We forget who we are in Christ. Regardless of how the Gospel has changed us, we can drift away from our first love and start trying to earn our salvation again. We overlook our past with God’s history of faithfulness.

Thankfully, Paul reminds us that our identity and salvation are found in Christ alone. We do not have to “earn” anything. Jesus bought us, saved us, and is working to change us through the power of the Holy Spirit. Only by faith will we know our true identity in Christ.
