"I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent."
(LUKE15:7)

Luke 15
It’s 3:00 AM in South Bend, Indiana, November, 2014. Jenny Railing was awoken by her husband just after he called emergency services. What was wrong? Department after department from their city arrived quickly outside their house to rescue two kittens stuck in a sewer drain.

I’m assuming not much was happening that night! By the time seven city agencies responded to the call, one kitten was easily rescued. The other one was harder to retrieve, taking a water department worker nearly an hour to find after he was lowered into the sewer. Eventually, the second kitten was also saved, and both felines went up for adoption.

Jesus often talked about “lost” things like sheep, coins, and people. In the Gospel of John, Jesus said there was much rejoicing in heaven when
one person was rescued from his sins by repenting and turning to God. It’s absolutely astonishing that our Holy God would come looking for lost and dirty sheep like us. But then again, Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He calls His sheep, and they hear His voice.
