“After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: ‘Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.’”

John 17:1
The Bible records Jesus praying 25 different times during His earthly ministry, and certainly He prayed many more times than that. The Son of God Himself needed to pray? You’d think since He and the Father are one (John 10:30) that He wouldn’t need to set aside time to pray. But Jesus seemed to need time with God just as much as we do.

In His humanity and in relationship to His Father, Jesus became like a child wanting to be with the one he loves. He was dependent on His Father (John 5:19). He invites us to do life the very same way, remembering that apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5).

“Our heavenly Father, we thank you for the atoning death of Jesus that paid the penalty for our sins, although this alone is not enough to bring us to heaven. Besides this substitutionary death, we are also thankful for the 33 years of Jesus’ life on earth wherein His every word and action sinlessly fulfilled the demands of the law of God, meriting for us His righteousness. Through Him, the God-Man, we have eternal life.”
