"But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control…”

Philippians 3:20-21a
I’ve tried to understand the appeal of many reality TV shows. They supposedly give us a glimpse into someone else’s “actual” home life. Do they really? Even when they are not scripted and staged, I struggle to find the hope or meaningful truth in this selective reality.
However, there is a vision of another reality that holds out both hope and wonder for me, and that is of my true home in heaven. I caught a glimpse of it in the passing of a dear Christian brother this week, knowing that heaven’s joys are now his present reality. I see a sneak peek into my future family life when I view church siblings, unscripted and unstaged, sacrificially caring for each other with the love of Christ. I experience the preview for heaven’s choir when I raise my voice with others in hymns that lift Jesus high.
“I must keep alive in myself the desire for my true country, which I shall not find until after death… I must make it the main object of life to press on to that other country and help others to do the same” (C.S. Lewis).
